The story of GMC
Once upon a time there was a couple from Leeds. He worked in recruitment, she worked in law. They sacked it all off to go and play in the mountains! The end.
The idea for GMC was formed on a flight home from a boarding holiday in May 2009 and we opened our doors for our first season in December 2009 - no messing around! Our first ever guests greeted us with the usual questions...
- Q: Have you done a season before? A: No.
- Q: Are you a trained chef? A: No.
- Q: Are we your first guests?! A: Yup!
One of our first guests (who had never skied before) has now stayed with us five times, so we can’t have done too badly! We are now entering our third season and have expanded from sleeping 13 to catering for 32 people.
Ps. Our first ever draft for the website in 2009 included the phrase ‘we are passionate about snow’?! This was a load of balls – we lived in Leeds, went on one ski holiday a year, spent no money on kit and did not care which resort we went to. We are however now pleased to announce, that entering into our third season we at GMC are PASSIONATE ABOUT SNOW! We love the stuff...
The Name
Why Green Mountain Chalets...? Are we an eco chalet? Are we a vegetarian chalet? Surely we should be White Mountain Chalets? Well, if we were Barry White (the walrus of love) or Shaun White (a half decent snow surfer) then White mountain would have worked better but from James & Gemma Greenway... Green Mountain Chalets was born.

Charities
In 2010/2011 GMC supported two charities...
- Ali climbs Kili – we offered a week for two at GMC which was included in a charity auction raising money for COCO Foundation.
- Guiseley Lions - we sponsored a barrel at Guiseley beer festival and took along two guests for a beverage or two at the sponsors afternoon. All money raised from the beer festival went towards the great local causes that Lions support.
We are currently looking for two new charities for 2011/2012 – get in touch if you know a good cause.
